This is an awesome site. WHH was an interesting man who wrote some of the scariest, and most atmospheric stories ever put to paper. I love that others think enough of him and his stories to continue on in "his" universe.

I can't escape the spell of the Night Lands...even here in the heart of NYC, the vast neon litten canyons of of glass and steel, I feel the hunger of the pneumavores pressing in from the outer darkness...in the wail of ambulance sirens I hear the laughter of unnameable horrors...the glow on the dimly seen horizon is the fire of giants' forges...in the steam of ConEd manholes are the barely glimpsed shapes of not-men...and don't get me started on the subway tunnels...Oh God! Don't let the train stop between stations...what's that just outside the window??!! Aaaaargh!

It is unknown.  Wright (in"The Last of all Suns" identifies it with the House on the Borderland, now possessed by evil.

What are the thoughts of  the readers of the Night Land about the House of Silence. Is it a gateway/portal to another dimension, a singular entity of evil, a fortress of the Silent Ones, a combination of these or something else altogether?

I recently read "The Night Land" while listening to Kula Shaker's 2010 album which included the eerie "To Wait Till I Come" about a maid in a tower. Now it reminds me of the book when I listen to it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilgrims_Progress_(album).

Only recently discovered Hodgson and his work. In the last month have read The Night Land and the two published collections Eternal Love and Nightmares of the Fall. This would make an excellent mini series. Hodgson's Night Land certainly deserves more recognition and this site does well by his legacy.

I am writing a history of Blackburn Harriers and came across your site. I beleive the premises on Revidge where William Hodgson lived became or was when he lived there a tea room possibly run by Elizabeth Hodgson and was named Hope Cottage about that time.
Can anyone help - I am specualting but can anyone help as to whether he had connections with the Harriers during his time in Blackburn as their HQ at the time was at Hope Cottage !
